There is no training for Cancer

I struggled with my run today.  10 mile run.  First 5 in 54 minutes, with a lot of it uphill.  On track.  The next 5 did not go as well.  Numbness in my feet, muscle cramping, heavy legs, loss of energy, problems I have not encountered previously.  While I was running, I was thinking of what I was learning.  For instance, always carry my own food because the fuel might not be at the stop where I need it to be. Run more Hills.  Rethink my pre-run fuel.  Begin to prepare for the next event & not be discouraged by this one.

I also thought of when you learn about having cancer.  You are thrown into the starting line of a marathon.  Only you don't get to train.  Your body goes thru H-E- double hockey sticks and you still have miles to go.  Your finish line is unknown because you never know what mile you are on.  But you just keep going.

Today I ran slower than I would have liked.  But I kept going.  And plan to continue to do just that.

End Child Hunger Too!

While I am currently fundraising for LLS, I was extremely lucky to be a part of another volunteer opportunity today.  I work for a food ingredient distributor who donated 2,150 pounds of flour, red rice, & pasta (all bulk) to our local food pantry.  And it gets better.  49 people from my office donated their lunch hour today to repackage these 20-50 pound bags and boxes into smaller containers, like a quart size ziplock.  Each smaller package was labeled with the date, what it contained & how to cook it.  These were then put into boxes.  They will be loaded & delivered by my coworkers as well.

I challenge everyone who reads this to find someway to donate your time this month.  Trust me- it will make you feel AWESOME!

Positive Attitude= Positive Results

Ironically I checked out my sister's TNT site tonight to see the caption "The Power of Positive Thinking".
In an email that I had composed earlier today I had typed "Positive Attitude = Positive Results".
We must have been feeling a similar vibe.

Always keep in mind that positive results are personal.  Positive for me, might be disappointing for someone else.  But you can find always find something positive with your experience, the way that you grow as a person, a lesson learned, a new connection to the world around you, an obstacle overcome, that you tried & gave it your all.
Just in case you are wondering what my positive attitude is all about today- I am so proud of my boys and the men that they are beginning to become that it almost brings me to tears (okay so it did bring me to tears).

Bad Training Week

Plowed through the week of influenza in my home, everyone sick but me, last month.
Only to be defeated this week by strep throat, full day and a half in bed.
Everyone else?  Healthy as can be.
Check back next week for something more exciting!  (like an actual run!)
